Gavin Sommerville is most definitely one to watch. In a matter of just a few years the young Scot has rocketed up through the ranks of the UK's most exciting turntablist talents, going from bedroom player and occasional warm-up guest to lynchpin of one of the country's leading clubs.
As one of the Bamboo Tongue In Cheek and Toxic Pop residents, Gavin provides the firm musical foundation on which the club's many world-renowned guests build their sets. And whether it's Prime cuts, DJ B or DJ Yoda, they've all welcomed the benefits of Gavin’s exceptional talents for reading a crowd, building a groove and making a night.
Gavin can also be found playing out soulful RnB, breaks, – funk galore and even a bit of harder hip-hop when the mood takes him.
He's an all-rounder in the best possible sense, a DJ who innately understands what his dance floor wants and plays it – regardless of his own tastes. This is not a spinner whose ego gets in the way. I could go on about the other residencies, the high-profile guest slots, interviews, the incredible scratching that makes his sets stand out, the day job as buyer in a record shop....
but I won't. No, Gavin's music is all the proof needed and if you've heard him you'll know that already.
